dust-jacket-NEW1

The book about Labyrint (2006 – 2016) is finally out and we would like to welcome you to celebrate the event at Rönnells on a Saturday afternoon! Tape (Häpna!) will be performing new released music.

Time: Saturday, Dec 9th, at 2 PM – 4 PM
Place: Rönnells Antikvariat, Birger Jarlsgatan 32B

The book collects ten years of work with Labyrint, a unique artist’s book archive in Sweden, which took form at Botkyrka Konsthall in 2006. During ten years, everything from – releasing unique artist’s books, to producing exhibitions, was realised in Sweden and internationally.

Also, a new artist’s book, by the artist Muhammad Ali, is released on this particular day. Muhammad Ali is currently a studio grant holder at Iaspis (International Artists Studio Program Sweden), and is a former resident artist in Residence Botkyrka’s programme in Fittja.

We would like to thank all the hundreds of artists, who have contributed to Labyrint! All artists, who have participated over the years, are welcome to get a copy of the book.

Labyrint – an exploratory work about artist’s books; a publisher, a series of spatial exhibitions and an archive initiated by Joanna Sandell (curator) and Pia Sandström (artist). Labyrint started as an exhibition in form of a monumental circular library featuring artists’ books from all over the world.

Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’s Library in Babel, and envisioned as a rewrite of the universe – each book is the opening to a new world, compiled in a non-hierarchical order. Visitors were welcomed and seated in sculptural risers with reading spots providing an overview of the room. Librarians, dressed in Notebook-like garments, helped the visitors find links between the books in order to attract new ways of thinking.

The library expanded into a series of exhibitions, archives and publishers. Labyrint has also been on tour and participated in the Venice Biennale of Architecture in Venice, 2014.
